About hometown and family
I came from the “Queen City of the South” Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines. Before it had it’s name “Cebu”, it was known as “Zubu” (Sugbo) between the 13th and 16th century─ an island inhabited by Hindu, animist and Muslim ruled by Rajahs and Datus. It’s also dubbed as the "Island of Festivals" due to the popularity and number of festivals celebrated throughout the entire province. The most famous religious festival we have here in Cebu is the “Sinulog Festival” ─ which is celebrated every third Sunday of January in honor of the patron saint, Señor Santo Niño de Cebu. Sinulog Festival is very popular all around the Philippines as well as from other countries. Many people come to see the participants from different provinces in Cebu do their dance performances offered to the patron saint. Cebu isn’t only famous with its Sinulog Festival but with foods and other export products as well. One of the famous foods we have is the delicious “Lechon Baboy” or the roasted pig ─ a pork dish which is commonly served during special occasions. I’m the eldest child in the family and I have one brother who is currently taking up nautical to follow my father’s footsteps. My father is working as a seafarer for more than a decade already and he’d been to different countries around the world while my mother used to be in an office but resigned to take care of us when we were young. I love my family very much, they’re my inspiration to keep on striving and I want nothing but the best for them.
私は「南のクイーン･シティー」と呼ばれる、フィリピンのセブ島出身です。セブ島は、１３世紀から１６世紀の間「ズブ」という名前で知られており、ヒンドゥー教徒やイスラム教徒の人々が住んでいました。セブ島はまた、多くの有名なお祭りが催されるため、「お祭りの島」とも呼ばれます。セブ島で最も有名な宗教的お祭りは、「シノログ」というお祭りで、毎年１月の第三土曜日に開催されます。キリスト教の守護聖人「サントニーニョ」を祭るフェスティバルです。大規模なパレードやダンスなどのパフォーマンスが行なわれ、フィリピン全土、また海外からも多くの観光客が訪れます。
「シノログフェスティバル」以外にも、セブ島は美味しい地元料理でも有名です。「レチョンバブイ」はオーブンで焼いた豚肉料理で、とても人気のある料理です。特別な祝い事などで食べます。
私は２人兄弟で、父親の仕事を継ぐために、航海士の勉強をしている弟が１人います。私の父親は船乗りとして１０年以上働いていおり、色々な国に行ったことがあります。私の母親は事務員としてオフィスで働いていましたが、私が生まれてから子育てに専念するため、仕事を辞めました。家族の事は大好きで、私にとってインスピレーションです。彼らの幸せを一番に願っています。
Comments to students
As a nurse, I’ve learnt how to be flexible and versatile. I used to conduct health teachings to my patients and though I’m not a teacher by profession I know that I can handle teaching English as second language to those students who would love to learn about it. I will do my best to give them a good quality of teaching. This may be hard for the first time but I believe that having a strong foundation could make the teacher-student relationship last and this is what I’m looking forward to.
私の専攻は看護で、前職では看護師として患者さんのお世話をしていました。前職では臨機応変に行動する方法を学びました。私の専門は講師でありませんでしたが、英語を学びたい生徒様に英語を教えることが自分には出来ると、確信しています。最高の質の英語レッスンを提供できるようベストを尽くします。色々な困難があるかと思いますが、私のこれまでの経験を生かし、講師、生徒間のより良い関係を築きたいと考えています。またそれは、私が楽しみにしている事です。
Favorite TV program and its contents
Ever since I was a child I really do love anime programs and one of which that I liked the most is Flame of Recca. I happen to remember those days that I’m always in hurry to go home every after class in the afternoon just to watch this because I really find it interesting and cool. I do also love Japanese animes like One Piece, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Fairy Tail, and my most favorite- Bleach series. Aside from the aforementioned, I also like anime programs that has a mystery case theme like Detective Conan and Martin Mystery because it makes you think that you take a part in solving the mystery cases and it can do sharpen the memory. I can also give two thumbs up for the reality game shows, Survivor and The Amazing Race because it’s full of thrill and twist, you can really keep track on the everyday real life situations of the players and how they manage to stay in the game no matter what the consequences are just to achieve their goal-to win! Life is like a game, there are a lot of options to choose from but it’s a matter of how you strategize to stay longer, if you quit you never win and if you win you never quit, everybody wants to experience the taste of victory.
物心付いた頃から、私はアニメが大好きです。最も好きなアニメの１つは「烈火の炎」です。この番組を見るために、学校が終わると大急ぎで家に帰っていた頃を覚えています。とても興味深くてクールなアニメです。他にも、「ワンピース」や「家庭教師ヒットマンREBORN」、「フェアリーテール」、そして「ブリーチ」などの日本のアニメが好きです。また、「名探偵コナン」などの探偵者、ミステリー物も好きで、アニメを見ながら自分自身でも推理をしたりして、推理力が身に付く気がします。他には、「サバイバー」や「アメージングレース」といったリアリティーゲーム番組も好きです。参加者が実生活に似た状況で、ゲームを勝ち抜きくために悪戦苦闘する様子はとてもスリリングで面白いです。人生がまるでゲームのように感じられます。沢山の選択肢がある中、生き残るためにどのように計画を練るかが重要だと思います。もし諦めてしまうと、決して勝利できません。もし勝利すると、逆に決して諦めようとは思えなくなります。誰もが勝利の味を経験したいと思います。
Goals and dreams as an English teacher
My goal as an English teacher is to share what I’ve learned to my students. Communication is important for us to understand each other and I want to remove the barrier that hinders the connection of different kinds of nationality through teaching English as second language. I see teaching as a two way process, my students learn from me and I also do learn from them. I will make learning easy and comfortable as possible so that I could establish rapport with them because an effective teacher starts with a good mentor-protégé relationship.
英語講師としての私の夢は、私が学んだ事を生徒と共有することです。コミュニケーションはお互いを理解するために必要な事です。英語を教えることを通して、異文化間でのコミュニケーションを難しくするバリアを取り除く手助けをしたいと思います。英語を教えることは２種類のプロセスだと考えています。生徒が私から学び、私も生徒から学ぶ事です。可能な限りに英語学習を容易で楽しいものにするため、より良い関係を生徒と築きたいと思います。良い講師とは、よき理解者である事だと考えています。
About Japanese and Japan
I haven’t been with Japanese people but I learned from my friends that they’re friendly, hospitable, and hardworking. Their culture is also interesting, it’s way different from ours but at some point I can see similarities on the way they work and treat persons maybe because we were once colonized by Japan hundred years ago. Japan is a nice country too and people living there are indeed well disciplined and organized. In Asia, they’re best when it comes to Technology where in fact most of our appliances at home are made in Japan and it’s really durable. I hope I can visit Japan one of these days and make a lot of friends but before that I need to learn the Japanese language first it’s a bit hard but cool.
日本の方と交流した経験はこれまでありませんでしたが、友人から日本人はフレンドリーで、親切で勤勉な人たちだと聞きました。日本の文化もとても興味深く、フィリピンとは全く違っていると思います。しかし、昔フィリピンが日本の植民地だったせいか、人との接し方や働き方には、何かフィリピンと通じるものがあると感じます。
日本はとても良い国で、人々はとても規律正しく、しっかりしていると思います。テクノロジーに関して言えば、アジアで１番です。.フィリピンでも家電の多くは日本製で、長持ちします。いつか日本に行って、たくさん友達をつくりたいです。その前にまず、日本語を勉強しないといけないですね。。それは難しいですが、挑戦したいと思います。
